
SKYHAWK VOLLEYBALL ROARS TO 3-0 SWEEP OVER OVC FOE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI IN HOME FINALE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team put together a complete performance tonight in a clean 3-0 sweep over Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri (25-18, 25-21, 26-24) at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
UT Martin improved to 13-16 with a 6-9 OVC mark with the win, its sixth consecutive home victory over the Redhawks. Hannah Phillips accounted for a match-high 12 kills on a .357 attack percentage, committing only two errors in 28 swings. Kenzie Hinshaw handed out a match-best 33 assists for the Skyhawks.
Defensively, Brooke Gyori was once again a force out of the libero position – tallying a match-high 27 digs. Jamie Rys amassed 11 digs while Gintare Mackeviciute swatted away six blocks to lead all players.
UT Martin never trailed in the first set, compiling four of the first five points of the match. Southeast Missouri evened the score at 8-all but the Skyhawks came back to reel off the next seven points, which included a pair of kills by Phillips. The Redhawks closed to three points at 21-18 but UT Martin dialed up the final four points of the set, which included kills by Rys and Phillips. Hinshaw handed out 11 assists while Gyori accounted for 10 digs to lead the Skyhawks.
Southeast Missouri (16-12, 8-7 OVC) came out on a 4-2 run in the second set but UT Martin quickly erased its deficit thanks to five unanswered points. The Skyhawks maintained that lead for the duration of the set, eventually stretching their advantage out to 20-15 after a service ace off the right hand of Megan Fair. The Redhawks closed to within two points at 23-21 but back-to-back kills by Mackeviciute and Fair wrapped up the set. Walker (four kills) and Gyori (eight digs) helped carry UT Martin in the second stanza.
It was the Redhawks who came out strong in the third set, recording three of the first four points. Southeast Missouri kept its advantage until a 4-0 Skyhawk run, completed by back-to-back kills by Phillips. After the Skyhawks nabbed their first lead of the set at 19-18, four ties and two lead changes occurred before UT Martin was able to put Southeast Missouri away. Following a 24-24 tie, Walker (kill) and Fair (service ace) helped will the Skyhawks to the sweep. Phillips' six kills, Hinshaw's 12 assists and Gyori's nine digs led UT Martin in the final set.
The Skyhawks complete the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10 when they travel across the state to take on Tennessee Tech. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
