The University of Tennessee at Martin football team will return home to recognize the team's 19 seniors prior to a matchup against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Nov. 10. Kickoff from Hardy M. Graham Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+. Along with the team's Senior Day festivities, UT Martin will host a pregame concert by country music artist Eric Chesser at 11:30 a.m. in the tailgate area while serving as 'Honoring Our Heroes Day' with all members of the nation's active military and veterans will receive a free ticket with proper identification.
The Skyhawks (1-8, 1-5 OVC) enter the contest looking to snap a five-game losing streak while honoring the team's 19 seniors. The Skyhawks will recognize Anthony Brown, Ty Brown, Antonio Clifton, Tyler Eddings, LaDarius Galloway, Mark Garrett, James Gilleylen, Andrew Horton-Martindale, Devonte Howard, Ty Jobe, Marcus LeFlore, Kyle Naes, Kevin Prather, Jr., Kevin Reid, Jaylen Smith, Porter Streator III, Nick Thomas, Julian Thompson-Clay and Garrett Wall in a pregame ceremony for their accomplishments throughout their career.
Saturday's game marks the second of three games in the coveted Sergeant York Trophy series which goes to the winner of the quadrangular season football series between the four OVC football-playing schools located in the state of Tennessee – Austin Peay, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin. UT Martin has won or shared the Sgt. York Trophy five times in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The Skyhawks hold a 24-10 all-time record in the series – the best mark of the four Tennessee OVC schools. That includes a 15-4 mark since 2012.
A couple players for the Skyhawks are closing in on milestones towards the season's end. Senior linebacker James Gilleylen needs just seven tackles to move into 10th place on the program's all-time total tackles list, entering the contest with 271 tackles. Meanwhile junior Terry Williams has tallied 60 receptions on the season, needing just two more receptions to move into the single-season top-10.
Tennessee Tech (1-8, 1-5 OVC) notched its first victory of the season last week, squeaking past Murray State 27-24 on Homecoming. The win marked the first for the Golden Eagles under the direction of head coach Dewayne Alexander while freshman quarterback Bailey Fisher earned OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors after completing 21-of-34 pass attempts for 228 yards while throwing two touchdowns and rushing for one.
This marks the 36th meeting between UT Martin and Tennessee Tech in a series dating back to 1926. The Golden Eagles hold a 22-11-2 series advantage but the Skyhawks have held their own as of late, winning five consecutive matchups – including a 24-0 shutout in the season finale a year ago.
The game will be televised live on ESPN+. Fans can also tune into WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM to hear Tom Britt (play-by-play), Chris Brinkley (color), John Hatler (color) and John Abel (sideline) provide analysis.
