UT MARTIN TENNIS ROUNDS OUT SUCCESSFUL FALL SEASON AFTER NINE MORE WINS AT CHATTANOOGA FALL INVITE

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – All seven University of Tennessee at Martin tennis players who took part in the Chattanooga Fall Invite came back with wins as the Skyhawks passed yet another challenging tournament with flying colors.
Competing against a field that included Chattanooga, Jacksonville State and Western Kentucky, UT Martin notched four singles victories and five doubles wins over its two days of participation in the tournament.
In Singles 1 play, Asel Jumamukhambetova posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Western Kentucky's Millie Khoury. Jemima Potter chipped in a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Elena Tendero from Jacksonville State at Singles 2 while Mizuki Sakurai contributed a 6-3, 6-4 win against Western Kentucky's Lisa Freiss at Singles 4. Jule Streif also added to the Skyhawk win total after a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Judit Gonzales of Western Kentucky in Singles 5.
The UT Martin team of Jumamukhambetova and Potter took down a pair of opponents in Doubles 1. Jumamukhambetova and Potter unleashed a 7-5 win against the Western Kentucky team of Laura Bernardos/Friess before coming away with a 6-4 triumph over Delaney Edwards/Bogdana Zaporozhets from Chattanooga.
The Skyhawk duo of Sakurai and Daphne Pratt also collected two wins while competing in both the Doubles 2 and Doubles 3 events. In Doubles 2, Sakurai and Pratt downed Chattanooga's Annie Tarwater/Zaporozhets by a 6-3 margin while also dialing up a 6-2 win over Zeniece Charles-Hall/Gonzales from Western Kentucky in Doubles 3.
The Doubles 2 field also saw another UT Martin doubles win as Plantada and Amelia Campbell were responsible for a 6-4 triumph against Lucia Diaz/Khoury from Western Kentucky.
The Skyhawks conclude the fall season with a 49-37 record in singles (.570 winning percentage) and a 29-15 mark in doubles (.659 winning percentage). Jumamukhambetova boasts a team-high 10 singles victories while the trio of Jumamukhambetova, Plantada and Campbell have each compiled a team-best 10 doubles wins.
UT Martin opens its spring season on Feb. 7 when it travels to Samford. The Skyhawks take on seven different nonconference opponents before beginning Ohio Valley Conference play on March 22 against Southeast Missouri.
