MARTIN, Tenn. – Noel Meadows, from the University of Tennessee at Martin, was selected as the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Shorty's Reining Rider of the Month for September, the organization announced today.
A sophomore from Staunton, Va., Meadows posted a perfect 4-0 reining record last month – three of which came against nationally ranked squads. She compiled an average of 66.8 points per ride while also garnering MOP status on Sept. 28 against No. 8 Fresno State. On the season, Meadows accounts for four of the Skyhawks' seven victories in reining.
Meadows' season began with a 67 in reining against the No. 1 ranked Auburn Tigers on Sept. 20. She followed that with the aforementioned MOP with 66.5 points against Fresno State. On the following day, she tallied a season-high 68 points against No. 7 Baylor and 65.5 points against Delaware State.
Today's award marks just the second time in UT Martin history that a Skyhawk has claimed a national Rider of the Month honor since the NCEA initiated its monthly honors in 2013. Meadows' teammate Abbie Hopkins became the first UT Martin representative to win, as she earned that title in equitation over fences in October 2017.
This marks the second award for Meadows so far in the early portion of the 2018-19 season. She also claimed United Equestrian Conference Reining Rider of the Week honors on Sept. 26.
The Skyhawks return to action with back-to-back home competitions next week, as they will host on Sweet Briar College and South Dakota State on Oct. 11-12.
