MARTIN, Tenn. – Megan Fair produced a match-high 14 kills to extend the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball winning streak to three matches in a convincing 3-0 victory over Ohio Valley Conference rival Belmont (25-9, 25-20, 27-25).
          Â
Fair was the only player in the match to record double-figures in the kill column, as the senior out of Conover, NC hit .423 with only three errors in 26 swings. Kenzie Hinshaw accumulated a match-best 21 assists while helping direct a Skyhawk offense that hit .250 for the match. Hannah Phillips was responsible for three of UT Martin's seven service aces as the Skyhawks earned their first OVC sweep in 2018.
          Â
Defensively, Brooke Gyori scooped up a match-high 14 digs while Justine Walker tallied four blocks for UT Martin (11-12, 5-5 OVC), who limited the Bruins to an .067 attack percentage in the match.
          Â
The Skyhawks did not trail at any point during the first two sets. UT Martin scored the first three points of the opening stanza and didn't look back, turning a three-point advantage into double-digits after a 13-3 run. Fair and Walker each had a pair of kills while Karen Scanlon and Jamie Rys also added kills during the surge. Fair tallied two more late kills to help put the finishing touches on a dominant 25-9 win. The Skyhawk offense hit .524 (12 kills against one error) in 21 attempts to start the match.
          Â
Fair stayed hot in the second set, slamming down six kills to pace UT Martin. The score was 3-2 in favor of the Skyhawks until an extended 10-0 UT Martin run which featured four Fair kills and a pair of Rys service aces. The Skyhawks led by a 17-7 margin before Belmont went on a run, slicing its deficit down to four points at 24-20. However, Walker put an end to the potential Bruin comeback with a big kill to give UT Martin the 2-0 advantage. Hinshaw generated team-highs of nine assists and five digs in the second stanza.
          Â
The Bruins controlled the lead for a large portion of the third set before the Skyhawks charged back to complete the sweep. The score was knotted at 8-all until the Bruins scored five unanswered points to take the advantage. The UT Martin deficit reached four points at 23-19 but a Rys kill spurred a 5-0 run that resulted in the first of three match-point situations for the Skyhawks. Back-to-back kills by Fair and Phillips wrapped up the sweep for UT Martin, who received seven digs out of Gyori in the final set.
          Â
The Skyhawks' three-match homestand concludes on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they close out the nonconference schedule with a matchup against Middle Tennessee. First serve from Skyhawk Fieldhouse is set for 6 p.m.
