UT MARTIN GOLF FINISHES SKYHAWK FALL CLASSIC WITH STRONG THIRD ROUND

BUCHANAN, Tenn. – Another Skyhawk Fall Classic is in the books as the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team shot the second-best score in the field during today's third round at Paris Landing State Park.

UT Martin recorded a 289 (+1) over the final 18 holes, posting 18 birdies and an eagle on the day. The Skyhawks finished the tournament with an 882 (+18) to finish in third place behind Tennessee State (863, -1) and Murray State (864, E). Murray State's Austin Knight claimed medalist honors with a 205 (-11) and was joined on the all-tournament team by Will Schroeder from John A. Logan (213, -3) and Murray State's Justin Wendling (215, -1).

Sophomore Tate Chumley recorded his third consecutive top-four tournament finish, as he finished with a total score of 216 (E). Shelden Barina posted the best finish of his young collegiate career as he placed 10th with a 218 (+2). Nick Wolf (220, +4), Peyton Dix (222, +6) and Mason Chandler (223, +7) each placed in the top-20 in the final individual standings while Cameron Smith (226, +10) and Jack Story (228, +12) also represented UT Martin.

Today's round featured three even-par performances, as Barina, Chandler and Smith each carded a 72. Chumley posted a 73 while Story narrowly missed out on joining the scoring lineup with a 74. Competing as individuals, Dix was responsible for a 74 while Wolf accounted for a 75.

Chandler dialed up a team-best four birdies on the day while Smith posted three birdies and the only eagle of the third round – tallying that score on the par-5, 503-yard Hole No. 3. Barina and Chumley each had three birdies while Story (two), Dix (two) and Wolf (one) contributed to the Skyhawk total.

Overall, Dix led the 43-man tournament field in par-3 scoring with a 2.92 (-1) average while Chumley and Barina tied for second in the field in par-5 scoring (4.50, -6). Barina's 10 total birdies ranked as a team-high while Wolf ranked second in the tournament with 38 birdies.

UT Martin will take a week off from official competition before returning to the links on Oct. 15-16 at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, hosted by Austin Peay at Greystone Golf Course in Dickson.
