Dr. Laura Brown, a professor in the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Health and Human Performance, has served as the Skyhawks’ Faculty Athletics Representative since the 2020-21 academic year.
Brown’s role of a Faculty Athletics Representative is to promote academic integrity in intercollegiate athletics, to facilitate the integration of the athletics and academic components of the collegiate community and to promote institutional control of athletics on campuses.
Raised in Brampton, Ontario before moving to Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Brown has been at UT Martin since 1995, when she started as the coordinator of aquatics and fitness. She rose through the academic ranks and was promoted to a full professor in 2015.
Brown earned UT Martin’s Featured Faculty Scholar award for the spring 2019 semester and also received the 2018 Pinnacle Award from the UT Martin College of Education, Health and Behavioral Sciences. She additionally won the Alpha Omicron Pi Teacher of the Month honor in September 2017 and snagged the UT Alumni Outstanding Teacher Award in 2015, among other accolades.
Brown graduated with a bachelor’s degree from UT Martin and a Master’s degree from Murray State University. She also obtained both education specialist and education doctoral degrees from Union University.
