Angelina Culley
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant
Angelina Culley begins her first year as volunteer assistant coach of the University of Tennessee at Martin softball program in 2025. Â She joins the staff with a history of playing and coaching softball at multiple levels
Culley has previously coached travel softball and most recently was the assistant coach of Martin Westview softball during their state championship season in 2023, including an appearance in the state championship playoffs for the 2024 season.
A graduate of Huntingdon High School, Culley helped lead the Fillies to their deepest run in the state championship playoffs that had ever been achieved at that time during the 2015 season with a Final Four appearance. Â She commanded the field as the starting catcher from her freshman year on, while leading the team in almost every offensive statistic, including setting the single season hom erun record. Â Culley also played on elite travel teams including Tennessee Illusions and Germantown Red Devils 16u. Â She was trained as a catcher by Olympic Gold Medalist, Jenny Topping, and her hitting coach was Bobby Tewksbary who is listed in the Top 40 Most Influential People in Baseball by MLB. Â Her arm and strength and conditioning coach was Austin Wasserman who founded High Level Throwing based in Boca Raton, Florida. Â She continues to work with Wasserman, but now as an assistant at his camps throughout the U.S.
Although Culley was recruited and offered scholarships by many prestigious Division I universities, a catastrophic injury halted her dreams of playing collegiate softball.  Teams still wanted her as a designated player, but if she couldn’t manage the field from behind the plate, she didn’t want to continue her career. After some time away, she wanted to get back in the game but as a coach.
As a UT Martin alum, Culley graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in K-12 licensure. After finishing her undergraduate degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude, she began the Master of Sport Coaching and Performance (MSCP) which she completed December of 2024. Â She is currently seeking her PhD while coaching at UTM.
