Nick Cochran enters his third season on the UT Martin football staff in 2026 and his first as the Skyhawks’ pass game coordinator, while continuing to coach the wide receivers. Cochran was elevated to the expanded role following a successful first season in Martin, where he helped guide one of the Big South-OVC’s most productive offensive units.
During his tenure with the program, the Skyhawks have boasted a pair of all-conference selections at the wide receiver position with Trevonte Rucker (2024) and Bryce Bailey (2025). The squad also won its fourth consecutive league championship in his debut season with the Skyhawks, winning the 2024 OVC-Big South crown.
In his first season with the Skyhawks in 2024, Cochran mentored a talented receiving corps that played a key role in an offense which averaged 31.4 points per game, ranking first in the OVC-Big South, while also leading the league with an 87.8 percent red-zone conversion rate. Under Cochran’s direction, Rucker recorded 857 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, while DeVonte Tanksley added 714 yards and three touchdowns, with both receivers ranking among the association’s top 10 in receiving yardage.
Then in year two, Cochran and the Skyhawks averaged 180.2 receiving yards per game with Bailey (495 yards) and Phaizon Wilson (450 yards) leading the squad offensively while combining for six receiving touchdowns.
Cochran brought extensive experience at the highest levels of college football to UT Martin. Prior to joining the Skyhawks, he spent three seasons as an offensive analyst at Alabama from 2021-23, primarily working with the Crimson Tide wide receivers. He also spent two seasons at Maryland as an offensive graduate assistant from 2019-21 under head coach Mike Locksley, a former Alabama offensive coordinator.
His coaching career began at Alabama, where he worked as a student manager before transitioning to an offensive student assistant from 2017-18. That early experience provided Cochran with an opportunity to learn within one of the nation's premier collegiate football programs and helped establish the foundation for his career as an offensive coach.
Cochran graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and sales from Alabama in 2017. He later received his master’s degree in real estate development in 2021. He is married to the former Victoria Giattina and the couple has has one daughter, Mae.
