Skyhawk Duo Of Mueller And Sulcer Earn Ohio Valley Conference Player Of The Week Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After going a perfect 5-0 last week, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team was rewarded with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week accolades as Carly Mueller (Defensive) and Dylan Sulcer (Setter) brought home those awards today.
Mueller becomes only the 10th player in Skyhawk history to be named OVC Defensive Player of the Week (first since Sept. 5, 2022) while Sulcer is the just the sixth UT Martin representative to be named an OVC Setter of the Week.
The tandem of Mueller and Sulcer each helped the Skyhawks sweep through its five-match home slate this week, downing Evansville by a 3-1 margin in UT Martin's home opener on Tuesday before defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-0, 3-0) and West Georgia (3-1, 3-1) in the Skyhawk Classic on Friday and Saturday.
A 6-2 middle blocker out of Hendersonville, Tenn., Mueller was named Most Valuable Player of the Skyhawk Classic as part of an All-Tournament Team performance. On the week, she rejected 21 blocks (1.17 per set) while turning away multiple blocks in all five matchups. She equaled a season-high with seven swats in back-to-back matches against West Georgia on Sept. 18-19. In addition, she landed 46 kills (2.56 per set) on a .382 attack percentage for the week – including a career-best 15 rally killers on Sept. 15 against Evansville. She currently ranks fourth in the OVC in blocks (0.85 per set) while checking in at sixth on the league leaderboard in hitting percentage (.287).
Sulcer took over as starting setter this week and directed a UT Martin offense that hit .217 over the course of five matches. The 5-9 senior from Brentwood, Tenn. dished out 165 assists (9.17 per set) while accumulating 39 digs (2.17 per set), 18 kills on a .245 attack percentage, 10 blocks and three service aces on the week, which was capped off with a mention on the Skyhawk Classic All-Tournament Team. Her 41 assists against Evansville on Sept. 15 were a career-high while she also secured her first double-double of the season (25 assists, 13 digs) against West Georgia on Sept. 19 after posting 40 assists with a season-best four blocks against the same Wolves squad on Sept. 18.
UT Martin starts OVC play this week with a road series at SIUE, traveling to Edwardsville, Ill. for matchups on Friday, Sept. 25 (6 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 26 (3 p.m.).
