BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes Lamine Niang and Morgan Mitchell were amongst the 17 recipients of the 2025-26 Ohio Valley Conference Community Service Awards.
A redshirt junior from Thiès, Senegal, Niang is the third Skyhawk men's basketball honoree to earn this award, joining David Kamwanga (2024-25) and Parker Stewart (2022-23). Mitchell, a Bartlett, Tenn. native who just completed her junior campaign, is the first UT Martin track and field representative to claim this honor.
The duo of Niang and Mitchell supplied various volunteer hours this past season. They each took part in the Hawks for the Holidays initiative, securing Christmas presents for foster children in the area. They were also involved with the Captain's Pantry program on campus, helping supply free food for students. They also teamed up at the annual Soybean Festival parade, Martin Elementary School Fall Festival, Martin Primary School Welcome Back Bash, Skyhawk Scholars Reading Program and Special Olympics.
First bestowed for the 2022-23 campaign, the OVC Community Service Awards are based on activities that took place during the previous academic year and recognize outstanding student-athletes for the contributions they make away from the playing surface, both on campus and in the community. OVC member institutions selected a maximum of one male and one female student-athlete for inclusion on this prestigious list.
