Caldwell And Skyhawks Go Low On Moving Day At Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Accounting for one of the best Round 2 scores of the Loyola Intercollegiate today was the University of Tennessee at Martin golf squad, who shot a sizzling 277 (-11) to move up two spots on the team leaderboard.
Through 36 holes, the Skyhawks (561, -15) are tied with NC State for fourth place on the 20-team leaderboard – just five strokes behind co-leaders Loyola (Md.) and Richmond at 556 (-20).
All six UT Martin representatives shot even par or better today, headed by a phenomenal effort out of senior Luke Caldwell. The Cookeville, Tenn. native equaled a career-best score with a 66 (-6) that included eight birdies – tied for the most in Round 2 in the 119-player field.
Also equaling a career-low in score today was Bryce Harmon as the freshman from Knoxville, Tenn. carded a 68 (-4) with five birdies. John-Gregory Wilson posted a 71 (-1) that included three birdies while Grant Phillips and Drew Williams each shot even-par 72's with four birdies apiece to complete the Skyhawk scoring lineup.
Competing as an individual, Jaden Morrell became the third UT Martin golfer to establish a career-best score today with a 71 (-1) that featured three birdies on the scorecard.
Caldwell's Round 2 performance shot him 15 spots up the leaderboard to ninth place at 137 (-7), four strokes behind Grand Canyon's Campbell Kerr and Richmond's Carson Baez for the lead. Caldwell is sixth in the tournament in par-4 scoring (3.80, -4), seventh in par-3 scoring (3.00, E) and 11th in birdies (10).
Phillips ranks 18th in the field with a 140 (-4), tying Caldwell for 11th place in the field with 10 birdies to go along with a team-best 4.38 par-5 scoring average (-5). Harmon (143, -1), Morrell (143, -1), Wilson (144, E) and Williams (144, E) are all separated by one shot going into tomorrow's third and final round. Wilson's 24 pars are a team-high for the Skyhawks.
As a team, UT Martin ranks second in the event in par-4 scoring (3.96, -4) and third in par-3 scoring (3.20, +8) while its 43 combined birdies are one off the tournament lead.
The Skyhawks are paired up alongside Loyola (Md.), Richmond and Denver for tomorrow's Round 3 at 8:45 a.m. CT. UT Martin's scoring lineup will tee off on Holes No. 1-3 while Morrell begins on Hole No. 4.
