
Skyhawks Finish Fourth At SIUE Dolenc Invitational

MADISON, Ill. – A total of four University of Tennessee at Martin golfers finished under par at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational as the Skyhawks wrapped up the third and final round at Gateway National today.
UT Martin finished fourth in the 19-team standings with an overall score of 839 (-13). That came after carding a 293 (+9) during today's Round 3. The Skyhawks completed the tournament with the fewest double bogeys (three) in the field while ranking third in the event in par-4 scoring (4.00, E) and third in pars (171). Idaho (821, -31) won the tournament after shooting a 273 (-11) in the final round.
Grant Phillips collected his first top-10 finish of the early season, placing 10th in the field of 100 competitors with a total score of 208 (-5). The junior out of Marietta, Ga. ranked 10th in the field with 13 birdies while pacing UT Martin in par-3 scoring (3.00, E).
Luke Caldwell (209, -4) placed 15th in the standings for the second consecutive top-15 placement of his senior campaign. He sank the eighth-most pars (37) in the tournament while sharing the team lead in par-3 scoring (3.00, E) with Phillips.
John-Gregory Wilson ranked 10th in the tournament in par-4 scoring (3.89, -3) on the way to an overall tally of 211 (-2). A strong Round 3 by Luke Beadles led to a 212 (-1) finish as he finished sixth in the field in par-5 scoring (4.50, -6).
Drew Williams accounted for a countable round today, finishing with a cumulative score of 217 (+4).
"Through 36 holes we were almost flawless, then today we didn't execute and struggled to get any momentum going," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "It's nice to be in a position to win but we will learn and get better. It's great to have four guys under par for the tournament – I'm proud of all of our guys this week and especially Grant and Luke for leading the way."
Beadles' team-best 72 today included a pair of birdies while Phillips followed with a 73 that included a team-best three birdies. Wilson and Williams each tapped in a pair of birdies on the way to 74's while Caldwell shot a 75 with one birdie.
Competing as an individual in the tournament, freshman Ian Lambert shot a 74 with two birdies in Round 3 – finishing with an overall score of 219 (+6).
UT Martin is back at it next week, traveling to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate. Hosted by Arkansas State, the tournament will be held on Monday, Oct. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 7 at RidgePointe Country Club.
