Dominant First Two Rounds Rockets UT Martin Atop SIUE Dolenc Invitational Leaderboard

MADISON, Ill. – Through 36 holes of the SIUE Dolenc Invitational, the University of Tennessee at Martin put forth an exceptional display of golf as the Skyhawks shot 22-under par to rank first out of 19 teams in the standings.
UT Martin shot identical 273's (-11) in each of the first two rounds as its 546 cumulative tally leads Idaho by two strokes. The Skyhawks lead the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.96, -2), par-4 scoring (3.92, -7) and fewest double bogeys (1). Overall, UT Martin combined for 42 birdies and a pair of eagles on Day 1 at the par-71 Gateway National.
Luke Caldwell has pieced together the best two-round total for the Skyhawks, shooting a 134 (-8) to rank third out of 100 golfers in the field. The senior from Cookeville, Tenn. ranks third in the tournament in fewest bogeys (2), fifth in par-4 scoring (3.83, -3), sixth in par-5 scoring (4.38, -5) and 10th in pars (25).
Joining Caldwell in the top-five is Grant Phillips, whose 135 (-7) is the fifth-best score so far. Phillips ranks third in the event in par-3 scoring (2.80, -2), fifth in par-4 scoring (3.83, -3) and seventh in birdies (10).
John-Gregory Wilson is the third UT Martin representative to find himself in the top-10 of the standings, carding a 137 (-5) today. The sophomore lefty is tied for third with Phillips in par-3 scoring (2.80, -2) while ranking seventh in the field with 10 birdies.
All four countable Skyhawk scores in Round 1 were under par, led by Phillips' career-best 67 that included six birdies. Caldwell followed with a 68 (three birdies, one eagle) while Wilson (four birdies plus one eagle) and Luke Beadles (five birdies) shot matching 69's.
Caldwell established a new career-best score with a 66 in Round 2, posting five birdies in a bogey-free round. Wilson (six birdies) and Phillips (four birdies) each shot a 68 while Beadles contributed an even-par 71 that included three birdies.
Beadles ranks 22nd in the tournament with an aggregate score of 140 (-2) while Drew Williams (143, +1) was the fifth member of the UT Martin scoring lineup – shooting a 71 and 72 with three birdies in each round.
Freshman Ian Lambert is competing as an individual in the tournament as the Jackson, Mo. native managed a 145 (+3) today. He notched four birdies on the way to a 72 in Round 1 before securing a pair of birdies on the way to a 73 in Round 2.
The Skyhawk lineup will tee off on Holes No. 1-3 tomorrow at 8 a.m., playing alongside Idaho, Belmont (-13) and Green Bay (-13). Lambert will begin Round 3 on Hole No. 18 alongside individuals from fellow Ohio Valley Conference schools Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and SIUE.
