AUBURN, Ala. – Jonathan Xoinis concluded his stellar University of Tennessee at Martin golf career today as the redshirt senior carded a 75 (+3) in Round 3 of the NCAA Regional at the Auburn University Club.
Xoinis' overall score of 227 (+11) ranked 52nd in the field, moving up eight spots in the standings from yesterday. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native managed a pair of birdies and 11 pars on the day, playing the back-nine at even-par. His first birdie of the day came on No. 11, dropping in a 15-foot putt on the par-3, 207-yard hole. Four holes later, he hit an approach shot 230 yards on the green before converting a 10-foot downhill putt for a birdie on the par-4, 425-yard No. 15.
On the day, Xoinis averaged a 3.25 (+1) on the par-3's, a 4.20 (+2) on the par-4's and even-par (5.00) on the par 5's.
Only 12 of the 75 players in the field finished at under par as Auburn's Jackson Koivun (-12) won by four shots over UCLA's Omar Morales and Kennesaw State's Claes Borregaard. On the team side, No. 1 Auburn (-32), No. 12 Texas A&M (-5), No. 13 UCLA (+6), No. 37 Purdue (+9) and No. 25 Georgia Tech (+10) will advance to the NCAA Championships alongside Borregaard, who was the low individual not on those aforementioned teams.
For the week, Xoinis ranked in the top-25 in the 75-plus man field in par-4 scoring average (4.13, 21st), fewest double bogeys or worse (two, 24th) and pars (35, 25th). He jotted down five birdies on his scorecard while averaging a 3.33 (+4) par-3 scoring average and a 5.25 (+3) par-5 scoring average.
"This is a big golf course and big property," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "He hit it pretty well off the tee but I think he had eight 3-putts on the week. He hit a lot of greens but his lag putting got him in a little trouble. But overall, he played solid – I just think these big, fast greens cost us a few shots."
For his four-year career (not including a redshirt season), Xoinis participated in 140 stroke play or match play rounds, produced 13 career top-20 finishes and played in a pair of NCAA Regionals (also appearing in the 2022 Regional in Norman, Okla.). He ends the 2024-25 campaign with a career-best 73.09 stroke average after becoming only the fourth UT Martin representative to win the OVC Championship tournament and the third Skyhawk to represent the school and league in a NCAA Regional.
"As far as Jonathan's career goes, he's excelled on and off the course," Swafford said. "Being named the OVC Male Scholar-Athlete this year is a huge deal. He was a starter on our 2022 OVC championship team and was on the OVC All-Newcomer team. For him to be OVC co-medalist and be here at NCAA Regionals for his final year, you just can't cap it off any better golf-wise. I've never had to worry about Jonathan – he always did more than what was asked of him and did what he needed to do to represent the program and university in a first-class manner. It's been a special week getting to end it this way."
