INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Tennessee at Martin redshirt senior Jonathan Xoinis learned his postseason fate today as he will take part in the NCAA Golf Regional at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala. on May 12-14.
NCAA Regional assignments for the 2025 NCAA Championship field were revealed live on the Golf Channel this afternoon. Xoinis will compete alongside other individuals from Louisiana-Monroe, Kennesaw State, North Alabama, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Chattanooga, Memphis, Arkansas State and Presbyterian as well as team qualifiers Auburn, Texas A&M, UCLA, SMU, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Purdue, Little Rock, TCU, Charleston, New Mexico State, Loyola (Maryland) and USC Upstate in the Auburn Regional. Overall, the 2025 NCAA Championship includes 81 teams and 45 individuals for a 450-man field spread out across six regional sites (others including Amherst, Va.; Bremerton, Wash.; Reno, Nev.; Tallahassee, Fla. and Urbana, Ill.).
Xoinis will be the third player in school history to represent the Skyhawks as an individual in an NCAA Regional, joining Brendon Caballero (2015 in Chapel Hill, NC) and Hunter Richardson (2017 in College Grove, Tenn). This will be Xoinis' second career appearance in an NCAA Regional as he was also part of UT Martin's Ohio Valley Conference championship squad that competed in the Norman (Okla.) Regional in 2022, finishing 34th with a 221 (+5).
Hailing from Chattanooga, Tenn., Xoinis shot a 210 (-6) at the 2025 OVC Championships held at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. last week – earning co-medalist honors with Little Rock's Rhett South. Xoinis punched his ticket as the league's automatic qualifier for the 2025 NCAA Regional after carding rounds of 68-70-72, joining Jack Story (2021), Richardson (2016 and 2017) and Caballero (2015) as the only players in Skyhawk history to claim an OVC individual championship.
On the season, Xoinis sports a career-best 72.8 stroke average over 29 rounds – playing a dozen of those rounds at even par or better. His victory at the OVC Championships was the first of his storied career as he has collected 13 top-20 finishes and a 74.6 scoring average over 120 rounds at the collegiate level.
Established in 1999, the Auburn University Club is situated on 225 acres of beautiful rolling hills and woodlands. The par-72 course plays at 7,607 yards, surrounding the 25-acre Yarbrough Lake and partly bordered by Saugahatchee Creek. Course designer Bill Bergin renovated the facility in 2022 with new Tift Eagle greens, 12 new tee boxes and 12 new bunkers.
The low five teams and low individual not on those aforementioned teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship event held on May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa North Course in Carlsbad, Calif. After all 30 teams and six individuals complete 54 holes of stroke play, the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket for team match-play competition, where a total of five points will be available with one point being awarded for each individual match. The first team to win three points within the team match will advance to the semifinals and subsequently, the finals – where a national champion will be crowned.
