Skyhawks Remain In Second Place At OVC Championships As Xoinis Stays In Medalist Contention

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Plenty of red scores dotted the University of Tennessee at Martin scorecards today as the Skyhawks closed out a successful Round 2 at the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference Championships at the Dalhousie Golf Club.
UT Martin shot a 281 (-7) today to keep its firm hold on second place in the team standings. Through 36 holes, the Skyhawks are sitting at 569 (-7) – which trails only Little Rock (560, -16). UT Martin paces the tournament field in par-5 scoring (4.67, -13), eagles (two), pars (104) and fewest double bogeys (four).
On the player leaderboard, Jonathan Xoinis ranks second out of 57 golfers with a cumulative tally of 138 (-6). He trails by just one shot going into tomorrow's final round of stroke play as Little Rock's Rhett South (137, -7) finished one shot shy of the course record with a 65 today.
Jackson Twerdahl ranks eighth in the field overall with a 142 (-2) while Luke Caldwell (144, E) and Grant Phillips (145, +1) additionally rank in the top-16 on the individual leaderboard.

A junior out of Cookeville, Tenn., Caldwell led the Skyhawks today with a 69 that included an eagle, three birdies and 12 pars. Xoinis and Twerdahl each carded four birdies and identical 70's in Round 2 while Phillips' even-par 72 (three birdies) completed the team scoring. Garrett Chumley produced three birdies himself on the way to a 73 (+1) today.
After trimming five strokes off his Round 1 score, Chumley moved up six spots in the overall standings with a 151 (+7).
Xoinis leads the entire field in par-4 scoring (3.85, -3) while also ranking in the top-10 in the tournament in birdies (10, fourth), fewest bogeys (4, sixth) and pars (22, ninth). The Chattanooga, Tenn. native also leads UT Martin in par-3 scoring (3.00, E).
Phillips leads the whole event in fewest double bogeys (one) while also ranking third in par-5 scoring (4.50, -4) and ninth in pars (22). Caldwell's eagle on the par-4, 370-yard Hole No. 6 was one of just three across the entire tournament today as he and Chumley are now tied atop the field with one eagle apiece.
