MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin football program held its annual Navy and White Spring Game in conjunction with a stadium packed for Junior Day on Friday afternoon with the offense coming out on top with a 45-38 victory.Â
With the offense and defense squaring off - instead of a traditional first team vs. second team battle - the Skyhawks used a unique scoring format. On offense the scoring formula mirrored a traditional game with a touchdown scoring six points while an extra point (one point) and field goal (three) stayed on par. On defense, the navy squad was rewarded with seven points for a takeaway, three points for a three-and-out, two points for a missed field goal and two points for a forced punt. The navy squad could also score six points for a fourth down stop on the defensive end of the field while securing five points from the offensive 50-26 yard lines and four points from the opponents 25-yard line and into the endzone.

UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson stated he was happy with where the team was after 15 practices and talked about the importance of the spring. "We got alot of things done this spring," Simpson said. "There are alot of new players and front-line guys, but that's just how it is. I'm pleased after 15 practices but we certainly have a long way to go. I don't know how you can put together a season without these 15 practices. Things never look as good as they will the last game of the season, but thank goodness we have the spring and summer."
UT Martin opens the 2025 season on the road at Big 12 member Oklahoma State on Thursday, Aug. 28.
