Twerdahl Crowned As Ohio Valley Conference Golfer Of The Week For Second Time This Season

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced University of Tennessee at Martin's Jackson Twerdahl as its Golfer of the Week today, less than 48 hours after the redshirt senior picked up the first win of his collegiate career.
Twerdahl, who also won this award on Oct. 24, becomes only the eighth Skyhawk to be named OVC Golfer of the Week twice in a single season. Today's announcement marks the fourth UT Martin weekly OVC winner in 2024-25, which is tied for the most single-season honorees for the program since the 2017-18 campaign.
Twerdahl finished atop the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate field, besting the field of 92 participants with a cumulative score of 204 (-9). That was two strokes better than Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Jose Berenguel, who Twerdahl leapt on the tournament's final day after carding a career-best 65 that included seven birdies – five of which occurred on the front-nine alone.
Playing a Hermitage Golf Course that is 30 miles away from his hometown in Nolensville, Tenn., Twerdahl jotted down 16 total birdies on his scorecard over the 54-hole event. He managed an even-par 71 in Monday's Round 1 morning session before closing out the day with a 68 with six birdies (four in the first seven holes) that afternoon. He only committed six bogeys or worse in the entire tournament, including just one over his final 24 holes as he chased down his first medalist finish.
Twerdahl's strong play helped the Skyhawks to their fifth top-five finish out of 10 total team events this season. UT Martin placed second in the field of 14 teams with a total score of 851 (-1).
With just one match-play event remaining during the regular season, Twerdahl currently ranks eighth in the OVC with a 72.3 scoring average. Tuesday's finish was his sixth top-25 effort of the season as he has played 13 of his 29 rounds at par or better.
The Skyhawks are back in action next week as they are co-hosting the fourth annual Carpenter/Chaney Classic alongside Morehead State on April 14 in Paducah, Ky.
