
Skyhawks End Season With Tough Loss at OVC Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Martin at Tennessee women's basketball team's 2024-25 season ended Wednesday, as it fell, 78-72, in a wild back-and-forth with Western Illinois at the Ford Center in Evansville as part of the 2025 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Basketball Championship presented by United Fidelity Bank.
Neither team led by 10 or more points in the game with Western Illinois' largest lead of nine coming in the first quarter and UT Martin's game-high seven-point advantage coming with just over a minute to play in the third quarter. In all, there were seven lead changes and 11 ties between the two teams during the game, with the Leathernecks leading for just over 20 minutes and the Skyhawks leading for a shade over 12 minutes.
The Skyhawks seemed to have the momentum at the end of the third quarter, as they led the Leathernecks, 60-53, with 1:16 to go in the quarter. Neither team would score for the rest of the quarter until five seconds remained and the Leathernecks sank a pair of free throws to cut the lead to five with 10 minutes left to play in regulation.
In the fourth, Western Illinois opened the quarter on a 12-1 run and eventually outscored UT Martin in the quarter, 23-12, to seal the win and advance to Thursday's quarterfinals.
Four Skyhawks reached double-digits in the contest, led by 20 from Shae Littleford. Anaya Brown finished the game with 15 points, three rebounds, and a game-high three blocks. Morgan Borgstadt and Daejah Richmond came off the UT Martin bench and combined for 25 points Wednesday. Richmond scored 13 points and had three rebounds, three steals, and two assists, while Borgstadt scored a season-high 12 points, in addition to five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
The Skyhawks finished the 2024-25 season at 13-19 overall and 10-10 in OVC play, which placed them sixth in the final regular-season standings. Following the season, two Skyhawks earned postseason accolades, as Anaya Brown was named to the All-OVC first team and Kenley McCarn was named to the second team.
