UT Martin Tallies Improved Scores On Moving Day At People’s Golf Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Tennessee at Martin's scoring lineup combined for 16 birdies and an eagle today during Round 2 of the People's Golf Championship, hosted by Western Carolina.
The Skyhawks whittled nine strokes off their first-round score today, carding a 288 (+4) as a team to bring their 36-hole total to 585 (+17).
Garrett Chumley and Drew Williams each accounted for a team-best 70 (-1) today. Chumley had three of his four birdies during a four-hole stretch on the back-nine while also adding UT Martin's first eagle of the tournament. Meanwhile, Williams sank a team-best five birdies as both Skyhawks shaved six strokes off their score from yesterday.
UT Martin's scoring lineup also included 74's out of Luke Caldwell (all three birdies on the front-nine), Jonathan Xoinis (three birdies) and Jackson Twerdahl (one birdie).
Ethan Ray is taking part in the event as an individual as he posted a 73 with one birdie, wrapping up his day with 13 consecutive pars.
Through two rounds, Ray's 143 (+1) leads the Skyhawks in the player standings. He is followed by a three-way tie between Chumley, Williams and Xoinis – who are all sitting at 146 (+4). Twerdahl and Caldwell are also responsible for scores of 147 (+5) and 151 (+9), respectively.
Ray ranks sixth in the 120-man field in par-3 scoring (2.90, -1) and is tied with both Williams and Xoinis for the team lead in par-4 scoring (4.17, +3). Williams has compiled a team-best seven birdies so far while Chumley (4.50 par-5 scoring average, seventh) and Twerdahl (26 pars, ninth) each rank in the top-10 in the tournament in their respective statistical categories.
The final round of the event takes place tomorrow at the Sea Palms Golf Club. Caldwell gets UT Martin started at 7:30 a.m. CT with Twerdahl (7:40), Xoinis (7:50), Williams (8:00) and Chumley (8:10) following suit on Hole No. 1. Ethan Ray will tee off at 8:10 alongside representatives from Tennessee Tech and Siena on Hole No. 10.
