
Skyhawks Battle, But Fall Short Against Lindenwood

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team kept Thursday night's game against Lindenwood close for the entire game but could never close the gap, as it fell, 62-59, at Kathleen and Tom Elam Center in Martin.
Lindenwood led for over 36 minutes Thursday night, but never led by more than 10 points. The Skyhawks cut lead to four with just over two minutes left and again with 23 seconds remaining, then to three with 7.6 second remaining. With 0.3 second left on the clock, Daejah Richmond drained a jumper to cut the lead to three again, but ultimately it was not enough.
UT Martin struggled from the floor in the in game, shooting just 29.8-percent, and from 3-point range, where they shot 23.1-percent. Meanwhile, the Lions shot 43.6-percent from the floor and 26.3-percent from 3-point range. The Skyhawks were also outworked on the glass Thursday, where they were outrebounded, 43-30, with just five of the 30 coming on the offensive side of the ball.
Richmond finished the contest with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double. The sophomore transfer also notched team-highs of four assists and five steals on the night. Anaya Brown led all scorers in the game with 20 points, while Kenley McCarn followed with 18 of her own.
The Skyhawks return to action at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center Saturday when they host Western Illinois at 1 p.m.
