COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Martin women's basketball team could not withstand a second half rally by Tennessee Tech night and fell on the road, 70-55, Thursday night at the Hooper Eblen Center in Cookeville.
The Skyhawks came out with hot hand in the first half, outshooting the Golden Eagles, 44.4-percent to 30.3-percent. UT Martin also outrebounded Tennessee Tech in the first 20 minutes at 18-16 and committed less turnovers at 10-7. All those things combined to help the Skyhawks take a 28-23 lead into the locker room at the break.,
However, in the second half, it was all Tennessee Tech. In the final 20 minutes, Tennessee Tech was the team with momentum, shooting 53.3-percent from the floor, compared to just 25.8-percent for UT Martin. The Golden Eagles also crashed the boards in the second half, where they enjoyed a 24-16 advantage over the Skyhawks. Ultimately, Tennessee Tech outscored UT Martin, 47-27, in the second half leading to the 15-point win for the first-place Golden Eagles.
Anaya Brown set a new career-high in scoring, while also notching her fifth double-double of the season to lead the Skyhawks Thursday. Brown scored a new personal best 29 points, while also pulling down 10 rebounds, both of which were game highs for UT Martin.
Shae Littleford and Kenley McCarn each scored eight for the Skyhawks, while Daejah Richmond finished with six points and six rebounds. For McCarn, the eight points scored Thursday puts her just four points away from joining UT Martin's 1,000 Point Club.
UT Martin will now get a whole week off before returning to action at home next weekend for the final two games of the regular season. On Thursday, the Skyhawks will welcome Southern Indiana to the Elam Center at 5:30 p.m., before hosting Morehead State Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
