Trio Of UT Martin Golfers Rank In Top 15 Following Round 2 In Arizona

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf squad shot under par for the second straight day during the second round today at the Loyola Intercollegiate held at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
The Skyhawks carded a 284 (-4) in the middle round of the event, bringing their 36-hole total to 566 (-10). That cumulative score ranks fourth out of 19 teams, trailing only Richmond (556, -20), Boise State (563, -13) and tournament host Loyola (565, -11).
Luke Caldwell had the low round of the day for the Skyhawks as the junior lefty shot a 69 (-3) that included five birdies. Jonathan Xoinis tapped in five of his remarkable seven birdies on the back-nine as part of a 70 today while Jackson Twerdahl (three birdies) shot even par. Drew Williams' 73 with four birdies completed the team scoring while Ethan Ray (77, three birdies) also represented UT Martin in the scoring lineup.
Freshman John-Gregory Wilson is taking part in the tournament as an individual and turned in a 75 for the second straight day, tallying one birdie.
For the tournament, three Skyhawks rank inside the top-15 of the player standings. Xoinis is seventh in the 116-man field with a 139 (-5) while Williams and Caldwell each rank 13th with a total score of 141 (-3). Xoinis ranks third in the tournament with 12 birdies while boasting a team-best 3.13 (+1) par-3 scoring average. Caldwell ranks seventh in the field in pars (25) and par-4 scoring average (3.90, -2) while Williams ranks third in the event in par-5 scoring average (4.25, -6).
Twerdahl has posted a 145 (+1) so far in the tournament with Wilson (150, +6) and Ray (155, +11) following behind.
The third and final round is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. tomorrow as UT Martin is paired up with Richmond, Boise State and Loyola on Holes No. 1-3. Wilson will tee off alongside individuals from Gonzaga, George Washington and Boise State on No. 8.
