Caldwell Paces Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate Field Through 36 Holes

JONESBORO, Ark. – Senior Luke Caldwell ranks atop the 72-man leaderboard at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate through two rounds as the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team is off to another blazing start.
Caldwell shot a 137 (-7) today to lead Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt by one stroke. The Cookeville, Tenn. native produced rounds of 68 this morning and 69 this afternoon, leading the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.38, -5). He also ranks fourth in the field in birdies (10), fourth in fewest bogeys (three) and seventh in par-4 scoring (3.95, -1) while accounting for a team-best 23 pars.
In the team standings, the Skyhawks are one of only two squads in the 12-team field to shoot under par through 36 holes. UT Martin's 276 (-12) in Round 1 topped the field before a 292 (+4) in Round 2 resulted in an aggregate score of 568 (-8). That score is 16 strokes clear of third-place East Texas A&M (+8) and nine strokes behind tournament host Arkansas State (559, -17) heading into tomorrow's final round. As a team, the Skyhawks lead the event in par-3 scoring (2.98, -1), second in birdies (37), second in par-4 scoring (4.13, +13), second in fewest bogeys (28) and third in par-5 scoring (4.95, -2).
Three more UT Martin representatives join Caldwell in the top-25 of the player standings. Drew Williams (147, +3) checks in at 21st while John-Gregory Wilson and Grant Phillips carded matching 148's (+4) today to rank 24th overall.
Luke Beadles ranked second in the field through Round 1 as the sophomore posted a team-best 67 with six birdies. Caldwell's 68 included five birdies while Wilson (five birdies) and Williams (three birdies) posted countable scores of 70 and 71, respectively. As a group, the four countable Skyhawk scores delivered 16 of their 19 birdies on the front-nine.
In Round 2, Caldwell (five birdies) shared the team lead with Phillips, who shaved 10 strokes off his first-round tally for a 69 that included three birdies and UT Martin's lone eagle on the day. Williams (76, three birdies) and Wilson (78, two birdies) each made it 2-for-2 in countable rounds on the day.
Beadles leads the entire tournament in par-3 scoring (2.63, -3) and is shooting a 150 (+6) with eight birdies through two rounds. His overall score is tied with Skyhawk sophomore Lucas Herring, who managed scores of 76-74 with three birdies in each round as an individual. UT Martin freshman Bryce Harmon (158, +14) is also competing as an individual, jotting down two birdies on his scorecard in both rounds on the way to a 77 in Round 1 and 81 in Round 2.
The Skyhawk scoring lineup will tee off Holes No. 1-4 at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, playing alongside Arkansas State and East Texas A&M. Herring and Harmon will each start their Round 3 journey on Hole No. 17 of the RidgePointe Country Club.
