BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following the team's comeback victory over Western Illinois last week, the University of Tennessee at Martin tandem of quarterback Jase Bauer (Offensive) and place kicker Cade Hechter (Special Teams) garnered OVC-Big South Football Association Player of the Week honors.
For the second time in three weeks, Bauer earned OVC-Big South Offensive Player of the Week honors after a standout performance against Western Illinois. The Ankeny, Iowa native racked up 259 yards of total offense while finding the endzone three times – including a pair in the fourth quarter. The senior completed 19-of-28 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 24 yards and two additional scores. He connected on a 10-yard passing touchdown in the second quarter before tallying a pair of two-yard rushing scores in the fourth, as UTM overcame an 11-point deficit. On the final drive Bauer completed a 34-yard pass and followed that with a 29-yard strike to set up his team on the two-yard line. He currently ranks sixth nationally in completion percentage (70.1%).
Hechter made a pair of field goals and a pair of extra points as UT Martin topped Western Illinois 32-31 on Homecoming. The Sydney, Australia native connected from 28-yards out with 7:43 to play in the first half and added a season-long 41-yarder just before the break to pull the Skyhawks within one point at halftime. Hechter ranks ninth nationally in field goal percentage (87.5%).
The Skyhawks return to action this weekend with a road trip to Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Oct. 18.
