SKYHAWK GOLF ADVANCES TO OVC CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH PLAY ROUND TOMORROW AS ISBELL EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT AWARD

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team's pursuit of the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Championship stayed alive as the Skyhawks are one of four squads who will take part in the match play portion of the tournament tomorrow.
UT Martin clinched a spot in Day 4 of the OVC tournament after finishing third in the team standings in stroke play (882, +10). The Skyhawks will face Tennessee Tech (871, +7) in the match play semifinals tomorrow while Little Rock (863, -1) will take on SIUE (891, +27) in the other matchup.
Following the conclusion of today's action, UT Martin sophomore Dax Isbell was named to the OVC All-Tournament team. The Cumming, Ga. native placed fourth in the field of 59 participants with an overall score of 217 (+1) for his second top-five tournament finish of the 2023-24 campaign.

Facing grueling wind gusts that at times reached up to 25 miles per hour, the Skyhawks shot a 298 (+10) today – the third-best score in the 11-team field.
Luke Caldwell led UT Martin in Round 3, carding a 73 (+1) which included a pair of birdies and one of only five eagles in the entire tournament. The sophomore from Cookeville, Tenn. managed that feat with a 3 on the par-5, 537-yard Hole No. 17.
Isbell (two birdies), Jonathan Xoinis (15 pars) and Grant Phillips (two birdies) each recorded 75's to complete the Skyhawks' team scoring.
For the tournament, all five UT Martin participants finished in the top-17 of the individual standings. Xoinis' 222 (+6) was good enough for 12th place while the trio of Caldwell, Phillips and Uehlein (78 today) tied for 17th with a cumulative score of 224 (+8).
The Skyhawks concluded stroke play as the top-ranked team in par-3 scoring (3.18, +11). Individually, Isbell and Phillips tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring (3.08, +1). Isbell and Caldwell tied for the team lead in par-4 scoring (4.07, +2) while Isbell's 4.83 (-2) par-5 scoring average ranked fifth in the field. Xoinis' 38 pars ranked fourth in the tournament while Isbell's 11 birdies were one off the most in the 54-hole event.
UT Martin's quest for its fourth OVC championship will start at 8:04 a.m. tomorrow as Uehlein is the first Skyhawk to tee off. He will be followed by Phillips (8:13), Caldwell (8:22), Xoinis (8:31) and Isbell (8:40) as UT Martin and Tennessee Tech will start their round on Hole No. 11.
