SKYHAWK GOLF SPLITS ON FIRST DAY OF CARPENTER/CHANEY CLASSIC MATCH PLAY EVENT

PADUCAH, Ky. – Jonathan Xoinis and Dax Isbell each went 2-0 on the day for the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team as the Skyhawks opened the third annual Carpenter/Chaney Classic with a split at the Country Club of Paducah.
UT Martin began the day with a 5-1 triumph over Tennessee State to move into the winner's bracket of the match play event. The Skyhawks concluded the day with a 4-2 setback to co-host Morehead State, setting UT Martin up for a third-place match against Lindenwood tomorrow.
Against the Tigers, Ethan Ray managed a 6&4 victory while Jacob Uehlein coasted to a 5&4 triumph. Xoinis posted a 3&2 win while Grant Phillips (2&1) and Isbell (1Up) additionally tacked on victories. Luke Caldwell also represented the Skyhawks in the match play format, battling until the end before falling 2&1.
UT Martin was then pitted against an Eagle squad who collected a 5-1 victory over Southern Indiana this morning. The Skyhawks were responsible for wins from Xoinis (4&2) and Isbell (3&1) but ultimately the Eagles claimed the win. Phillips and Uehlein each fell by a 3&2 margin while both Ray and Caldwell were defeated 6&5.
Tomorrow's Round 3 brings four more matches as SIUE and Morehead State will play for the tournament title. Southern Indiana takes on Tennessee Tech in a fifth-place match while Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois will battle for seventh place.
The action begins at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow while UT Martin will tee off on Hole No. 1 from 10-10:35 a.m. Ray will get things started for the Skyhawks at 10 a.m. and will be followed by Phillips (10:07), Uehlein (10:14), Caldwell (10:21), Isbell (10:28) and Xoinis (10:35).
