UT MARTIN TAKES PART IN ROUND ONE OF PEOPLE’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE PEACH STATE

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Freshman Grant Phillips carded the best score of the day for the University of Tennessee at Martin today as the Skyhawks completed Round 1 of the three-day People's Golf Championship hosted by Western Carolina at Sea Palms Golf Club.
Not only did Phillips record a team-best score of 74, the Marietta, Ga. native paced UT Martin in birdies (four), par-3 scoring average (3.20, +1) and par-4 scoring average (4.11, +1).
Ethan Ray and Dax Isbell followed with scores of 77, which included one birdie apiece. Ray guided UT Martin in par-5 scoring average (4.75, -1) on the day while Isbell equaled Phillips for the best par-3 scoring average on the team (3.20, +1).
The fourth and final countable score for the Skyhawks belonged to Jacob Uehlein, who topped the squad with 13 pars on the way to a 79.
Jonathan Xoinis (83, one birdie) also represented UT Martin in the scoring lineup while Luke Caldwell (78, two birdies) is competing as an individual.
As a team, the Skyhawks shot a 307 (+23) in a highly competitive field that includes 21 teams and 128 players. UT Martin ranked fourth in the field with 53 pars in Round 1.
The Skyhawks continue the tournament on the par-71, 6,664-yard course with Round 2 at 8 a.m. ET tomorrow.
