MARTIN, Tenn. – James Bass, a 6-10, 200-pound forward from Dakar, Senegal, made his commitment to the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball program official today as he signed with the Skyhawks for 2025-26.
Bass played under head coach David Grace at Campbell High School in North Hollywood, Calif. As a junior, he averaged 10.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest against stiff competition. He helped lead the Vikings to the CIFSS 2AA quarterfinals for the first time in program history and helped CHS to a No. 2 ranking in the 2AA classification in the state of California.
The incoming freshman hauled in 13 rebounds and swatted away three blocks in the Sweet 16 round of the California state playoffs. Bass also played in the 2024 Pangos Best of SoCal League "Cream of the Crop" All-Star Game, showcasing his immense talents against some of the best prospects in the southern region of California.
Bass also excelled in the prestigious Nike EYBL circuit as a member of the Vegas Elite roster.
"James is a bigtime talent with a tremendous motor," UT Martin head coach Jeremy Shulman said. "His toughness and versatility will lead him to great things here. He is also a fantastic person who is just a joy to be around. We are excited to see big things out of James in a Skyhawk uniform."
Bass is the second freshman added to the fold for 2025-26 today as Ama Sow (Dakar, Senegal/Montour HS) also inked with UT Martin earlier today.
