MORRELL IGNITES SKYHAWK GOLF’S MOVE UP THE LEADERBOARD FOLLOWING OVC CHAMPIONSHIP SECOND ROUND

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Senior Bryson Morrell tapped in a team-high six birdies today as the University of Tennessee at Martin jumped a spot in the team standings following Round 2 of the 2023 Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships.
Morrell's scorecard included a scorching five birdies on the front-nine. The Knoxville, Tenn. native was 4-under par through 13 holes before settling for a 69 (-3). He leapt seven spots on the individual leaderboard and now sits in fifth place out of 46 golfers with a score of 142 (-2) through 36 holes at Dalhousie Golf Club. He leads the squad with 21 pars while also ranking in the top-six in the whole tournament in par-4 scoring (3.95, -1, second), par-3 scoring (3.00, E, third) and birdies (nine, sixth).
The Skyhawks shot the second-best score in the field today, recording a 285 (-3) to bring their two-round tally to 579 (+3). UT Martin ranks second in the field in both birdies (38) and par-5 scoring (4.65, -14) as the Skyhawks jumped up to second place in the standings going into the final round of stroke play. The top-four teams in the standings after tomorrow's round advance to the match play semifinals round held on Wednesday, April 26.

Ethan Ray accumulated five birdies – three on the first seven holes alone – on his way to a 70 (-2) in Round 2. All-OVC Newcomer Dax Isbell also shot an impressive 70 (-2) today, securing four birdies along the way. UT Martin's fourth countable score came from Jonathan Xoinis (76, +4), who registered four birdies on the day.
Jacob Uehlein sank a pair of birdie putts during Round 2 before finishing with a 78 (+6).
Overall, Isbell's 147 (+3) ranks 14th on the individual leaderboard as the freshman from Cumming, Ga. is second in the field in par-5 scoring (4.25, -6). Xoinis is right behind him in 15th place with a 148 (+4) while Ray and Uehlein are tied for 21st with matching 150's (+6).
For the second straight day, the Skyhawks will be paired up alongside Little Rock (557, -19) and SIUE (580, +4). Ray will tee off first tomorrow for UT Martin at 9:40 a.m. and will be followed by Uehlein (9:50), Xoinis (10:00), Isbell (10:10) and Morrell (10:20).
