SKYHAWKS RANK THIRD ON TEAM LEADERBOARD AFTER DAY 1 OF OVC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin opened the 2023 Ohio Valley Conference Championships today with a solid 294 (+6), which puts the Skyhawks in third place out of nine teams through 18 holes at Dalhousie Golf Club.
All five members of UT Martin's scoring lineup produced at least three birdies in Round 1 as the Skyhawks dialed up 17 combined birdies on the day.
Individually, Jacob Uehlein and Jonathan Xoinis are each sitting in ninth place in the field of 45 golfers after turning in an even-par 72 on their scorecards today. Uehlein ranks fourth in the tournament with five birdies and sixth in par-5 scoring (4.50, -2). Meanwhile, Xoinis had three birdies – including back-to-back red scores on the 15th and 16th holes – as he ranks fourth in the event in par-4 scoring (3.90, -1) and fifth in pars (12).
Bryson Morrell followed just behind with a 73 (+1) this morning as the senior from Knoxville, Tenn. tied Xoinis for fourth place in the field in par-4 scoring (3.90, -1) while leading UT Martin in par-3 scoring (3.25, +1). Dax Isbell was responsible for the Skyhawks' other countable score today as he managed a 77 (+5) while tying Uehlein for sixth place in the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.50, -2).
Ethan Ray (80, +8) was UT Martin's fifth member of the lineup today as he equaled Morrell for the best par-3 scoring average (3.25, +1) on the squad.
The Skyhawks are in the final pairing for Round 2 tomorrow as they will be competing alongside Little Rock (277, -11) and SIUE (287, -1). Ray will tee off at 10:40 a.m. and will be followed by Isbell (10:50), Morrell (11:00), Xoinis (11:10) and Uehlein (11:20).
