MARTIN, Tenn. – For the last time this season, the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team will compete in front of the home crowd as the Skyhawks take on Bridgewater at noon on Friday, March 10 and Miami (Ohio) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
These two scrimmages are the final tuneup for UT Martin before it heads to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship, held on March 23-25 in Brookings, SD. Currently ranked No. 10 nationally, the Skyhawks are hoping that strong showings over the rest of the month will lead to a spot in the eight-team National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships, which will take place on April 13-15 in Ocala, Fla.
UT Martin is led in fences by Julia Gilman, who has earned eight victories and one MOP. The senior out of Barrington, Ill. is one of four Skyhawks who have posted at least five wins in the event, including Sydney Hott (team-best two MOP's).
In flat, Hott and Haley Kane share the team lead with six head-to-head wins apiece. Hott owns a team-high two MOP's while Gilman also accounts for one MOP herself.
The UT Martin horsemanship lineup is paced by Lexi Bailey's four wins as the sophomore out of Union Mills, Ind. has also nabbed one MOP accolade. Kate Davis is responsible for a team-best two MOP's in the event.
Logan Putvinski has earned a team-best six victories in reining as the Skyhawks have spread the wealth around in that event. Putvinski joins Bailey, Aubrey Malone and Emma Schaefer as riders who have brought home MOP honors in that event so far in 2022-23.
