SKYHAWK GOLF OPENS PLAY AT BOBBY NICHOLS INTERCOLLEGIATE

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Competing today for the first time in 19 days, the University of Tennessee at Martin completed Round 1 of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee Tech at the Sevierville Golf Club River Course.
The Skyhawks topped the 14-team field with 61 pars today while adding nine birdies. As a team, UT Martin ranks seventh with a first-round tally of 295 (+7) as Carson-Newman (280, -8) leads the tournament through 18 holes.
Freshman Dax Isbell and senior Jacob Uehlein led the way for the Skyhawks today, each tapping in a team-high three birdies on the way to 73's (+1). That score ranks 28th out of 90 golfers on the individual leaderboard. Uehlein was 1-under through his first 11 holes while Isbell birdied two of his final three holes this afternoon.
Luke Caldwell accounted for a pair of birdies on his way to a 74 (+2) while Bryson Morrell began his day with 11 consecutive pars before finishing with a 75 (+3) to round out UT Martin's scoring lineup.
The Skyhawks' fifth member of the lineup was Jonathan Xoinis, who started his round with 12 straight pars before carding a 77 (+5).
Uehlein ranks fourth in the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.75, -1) and seventh in par-5 scoring (4.50, -2) while also co-leading the team with three birdies. Caldwell, Morrell and Isbell each tied for the team lead in par-4 scoring average (4.10, +1) while Isbell (three birdies) and Xoinis (14 pars, fifth-best in the event) also led UT Martin in its respective statistical categories.
Round 2 will take place tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. The Skyhawks are paired alongside Roane State and Northern Iowa on Holes No. 7-10.
