PAULINO ACCUMULATES A TRIPLE-DOUBLE AS SKYHAWK VOLLEYBALL FLIES PAST OVC RIVAL TENNESSEE STATE

MARTIN, Tenn. – Graduate setter Haeleigh Paulino had a career night for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team as the Skyhawks put away Tennessee State in four sets (26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23) in Ohio Valley Conference volleyball action.
Paulino delivered her first collegiate triple-double, registering a career-high 10 kills, season-best 32 assists and 10 digs. She additionally hit .500 (only one error in 18 swings) while adding a match-high two service aces, becoming the second UT Martin player to amass a triple-double in 2023 (joining Addy Vaughn's 11 kills, 18 assists and 14 digs at Lipscomb on Sept. 7).
Kayla Bryant slammed down a team-high 13 kills while Jenna Vallée and Halle Everett each produced 10 kills apiece to give the Skyhawks four attackers in double-digit rally killers. As a team, UT Martin (4-11, 2-3 OVC) hit .219 to go along with six service aces this evening.
Nearly coming away with her first career double-double was libero Kayla Carrell as the senior from Pensacola, Fla. equaled a career-high with 29 digs while setting a career-best with nine assists. Olivia Saunders (season-high seven blocks), Vallée (four blocks) and Everett (three blocks) helped enforce the net throughout the night as the Tigers (2-13, 2-3 OVC) hit just .138 over the final three sets.

The Skyhawks scored the first four points of the match but had to come back in the opening stanza, staving off set point twice while ending the set on a 4-0 run. UT Martin boasted 18 kills in the opening stanza alone. Tennessee State flipped the script in the second set, overcoming a 22-17 deficit with an 8-1 surge to even the match at 1-all despite nine digs out of Carrell.
UT Martin hit a blazing .419 with 17 kills (against four errors) in 31 swings in the third set to take a 2-1 lead. In the final stanza, the Skyhawks never trailed as Paulino made history and Carrell chipped in another nine digs en route to the victory.
A two-match road series at Southeast Missouri is next up for UT Martin as the Skyhawks travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Friday, Oct. 6 (6 p.m.) and Saturday, Oct. 7 (2 p.m.). Both matches are set to be streamed live on ESPN+.
