UT MARTIN GOLF SITS IN THIRD PLACE, XOINIS RANKS SEVENTH THROUGH 36 HOLES AT PINETREE INTERCOLLEGIATE

KENNESAW, Ga. – Two rounds of the Pinetree Intercollegiate are in the books as the University of Tennessee at Martin golf squad ranks third in the team standings in the event hosted by Kennesaw State.
The Skyhawks trimmed eight strokes off their morning round today, following their Round 1 tally of 298 (+10) with a 290 (+2) this afternoon. Overall, UT Martin's 588 (+12) is tied with Belmont for third place in the 10-team field, trailing only Kennesaw State (562, -14) and Augusta (569, -7). The Skyhawks accumulated 28 birdies, an eagle and 105 pars on Day 1 of the tournament held at Pinetree Country Club.
On the player leaderboard, UT Martin redshirt junior Jonathan Xoinis is tied for seventh in the 58-man tournament. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native carded a 71 in the opening round before tallying a 73 in Round 2. Xoinis ranks third in the entire field in par-3 scoring (2.88, -1) while his eight birdies topped all Skyhawks. His cumulative score of 144 is nine strokes behind Kennesaw State's Shaun Cook, who carries a five-shot lead into tomorrow's final round.
Xoinis' 71 with five birdies led the way for UT Martin in Round 1 and was followed by Dax Isbell's 73 (with three birdies). Jacob Uehlein (76) sank four birdies while Ethan Ray tapped in one birdie putt to finish with a 78. Grant Phillips (82 with a pair of birdies) was the fifth member of the Skyhawk scoring lineup.
In Round 2, Phillips shaved 11 strokes on the way to a team-best 71 (-1) as he posted birdies – including a red score on each of his final three holes. Uehlein (two birdies) wasn't too far behind with an even-par 72 while Xoinis tacked on three more birdies as part of a 73. He joined Isbell (74 with three birdies and an eagle) and Ray (74 with one birdie) with countable team scores.
Overall, Isbell's 147 (+3) ranks 17th in the standings as he led UT Martin in par-4 scoring (4.05, +1) during the return to his home state. Uehlein's 4.50 par-5 scoring average (-4) was a team-best performance as his 148 (+4) is 22nd on the player leaderboard. Ray (152, +8) supplied a team-high 24 pars as he and Phillips (153, +9) are only separated by one stroke through 36 holes.
Luke Caldwell is competing as an individual during the tournament as the Skyhawk sophomore out of Cookeville, Tenn. generated a 151 (+7) following rounds of 77-74. The lefty was responsible for three birdies in Round 1 and added one more red score (plus 14 pars) in the second round.
The five scorers in UT Martin's lineup tee off on Hole No. 1 tomorrow alongside Augusta's "B" team and Loyola Chicago from 7:00-7:36 a.m. CT. Caldwell will begin on Hole No. 10 with players from Florida A&M and Bellarmine at 7:45 CT.
