SKYHAWK TENNIS FALLS TO AUSTIN PEAY ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON IN COMPETITIVE SINGLES ACTION

MARTIN, Tenn. – Facing off against an in-state opponent that entered the day undefeated inside of Ohio Valley Conference competition for their second straight home appearance, the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team squared off with Volunteer State rival Austin Peay on Friday afternoon, ultimately dropping a 7-0 decision to the Governors that extended APSU's overall winning streak to eight matches.
A pair of singles series veered ultra-close to falling in the Skyhawks' favor against an opponent that hasn't been defeated in nearly two months, although an opening set win from Aziza Aubin and Sina Albersmeier couldn't translate to a UTM point in either occasion, ending the first half of a two-match OVC stretch in a victory for the visiting side.
While Aubin came away with a 6-0 shutout over Aleks Topalovic and Albersmeier would do the same against Jana Leder by a 6-2 clip in the opening frame, the Governors would respond in quick fashion to keep the Skyhawks without a W to their tally when all was finished.
Amelia Campbell and Aubin's tag-team escapades against the APSU tandem of Leder and Danielle Morris concluded with a 6-3 decision for the latter in the closest the Skyhawks would come to a doubles victory.
It will be a swift turnaround for UT Martin following this afternoon's result with the Governors, continuing hosting duties against the Murray State Racers on Saturday at 12:00 noon. In what will be the final home appearance for the team and senior Sina Albersmeier in 2022, tomorrow's rivalry meeting with MSU will serve as the penultimate outing of the spring before a visit to Tennessee State in the season finale.
