SKYHAWK GOLF IN TITLE HUNT AS INCLEMENT WEATHER POSTPONES DAY ONE OF TSU BIG BLUE INTERCOLLEGIATE

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – Mother Nature intervened this afternoon at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate as the University of Tennessee at Martin is in third place out of 13 teams through Round 1 at Hermitage Golf Club.
Battling through windy and rainy conditions, the Skyhawks carded a 296 (+12) in the opening round this morning, which trailed only Wright State (292, +8) and Tennessee Tech (295, +11) on the team leaderboard.
Each team was able to complete 13-14 holes in Round 1 before play was postponed around 4:30 p.m. following thunderstorms and course flooding.
Jacob Uehlein and Bryson Morrell shared the team lead for UT Martin in the first round, each posting a 73 (+2). Those scores rank in a tie for fourth place in the field of 75 players, just three strokes behind Wright State's Tyler Goecke (70, -1) for the tournament lead. Jonathan Xoinis wasn't too far behind with a 74 (+3), which ranks 10th in the player standings. Garrett Chumley's 76 (+5) completed the team scoring for the Skyhawks.
Tate Chumley (77, +6) was UT Martin's fifth member of the scoring lineup while Cayden Chambers (79, +8) and Jackson Twerdahl (81, +10) participated in the event as individuals.
Through 18 holes, Xoinis is tied for the best par-3 scoring average (2.75, -1) in the entire tournament. Garrett Chumley's 4.67 (-1) par-5 scoring average is tied with six others for the best mark in the field. Uehlein ranks fifth in the field in par-4 scoring (4.00, E) and owned a team-best two birdies in Round 1. Morrell led the way with 16 pars for the Skyhawks.
UT Martin will tee off at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow with the intention of completing Round 2 before starting the third and final round. The Skyhawk scoring lineup is paired with Tennessee State and Belmont while the two UT Martin individuals are playing alongside members of Belmont and John A. Logan.
