MARTIN, Tenn. – After posting a strong showing during the delayed 2020 campaign, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's cross country team will begin the season ranked 12th in the NCAA South region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason rankings.
The Skyhawks sit 12th in the South region behind Ole Miss, Florida State, Middle Tennessee, Alabama, Tennessee, Lipscomb, North Florida, Georgia Tech, Belmont, Georgia and Florida. UT Martin sits ahead of Memphis, Vanderbilt and Auburn to round out the top-15.
UT Martin is looking to build upon a strong campaign in which the team equaled its best finish in program history at the OVC Championships while returning a few prominent scorers from last season. Seniors Alex Schell and Luke McNair look to lead a new crop of Skyhawks which features 12 returners and four newcomers.
The Skyhawks will open the season this weekend when hosting the Soybean Invitational on Friday, Sept. 3 at Pacer Pond on campus. The women's three-mile run begins at 6:20 p.m. with the men's four-mile to follow at 6:50 p.m.
