TEMPE, Ariz. – Second-year University of Tennessee at Martin head coach Caitlyn Williams has been announced as one of just 15 coaches who will take part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association USTA Mentorship Program for the 2021-22 campaign.
The ITA USTA Mentorship Program is a highly competitive venture that is intended to nurture the next generation of collegiate coaches. Each of the 15 selected coaches will be paired up with a veteran collegiate coach for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
The program is gearing up for its second year of the collegiate coach mentorship program as the pilot year was met with immense success due to the tumultuous nature of the 2020-21 season. As a result of the success and interest in the program, the ITA and USTA expanded the program from 12 mentorship pairs to 15 pairs.
Williams is joined by Missouri's Lois Arterbury, Ouachita Baptist's Kourtney Chumbley, Yale's Ellyse Hamlin, Norfolk State's Larry Holmes, Michigan State's Harry Jadun, Rochester Institute of Technology's Raphaela Jann, Notre Dame's Megan Kurey, Montana State's Trey Morris, Harford Community College's Elizabeth Mosser, Chicago's Kris Powell, Washburn's Kirby Ronning, Wisconsin-Superior's CeeJay Schaffner, Fresno State's Calvin Song and Mount Saint Mary College's Miyanna Yvonne Vernon as the designated mentees.
The 2021-22 program will officially kick off with a three-day orientation that will take place on July 13-15. At the virtual orientation, the mentors and mentees will meet, learn the best practices of an effective mentoring relationship, explore goal-setting and develop effective communication skills. Additionally, all participants will go through the True North Sports Coach Development Academy. The programming will help the coaches develop their team philosophy, culture and program structure.
Each participating coach will also receive free registration to the 2021 ITA Coaches Convention, held in Las Vegas, Nev. The annual ITA Coaches Convention offers a wide variety of career development opportunities as past presenters have included Stan Smith, Patrick McEnroe, Chris Evert, Craig O'Shannessy and Roger Crawford.
Williams is only the ninth head coach to oversee the rich history and tradition of the UT Martin tennis program. The 27-year old Knoxville, Tenn. native joined the Skyhawks following a highly successful playing career at the University of Tennessee and an illustrious amateur career.
