
TRIO OF UT MARTIN GOLFERS IN TOP EIGHT OF INDIVIDUAL STANDINGS AFTER DAY 1 AT MURRAY STATE INVITATIONAL

DICKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team put themselves in good shape for another tournament title as the Skyhawks are in second place through 36 holes at the Murray State Invitational held at Greystone Golf Course.
UT Martin began the day with the best round of any team so far, carding a 276 (-12) which was five shots better than any other squad in the field. The Skyhawks followed with an even-par 288 this afternoon for a two-round total of 564 (-12), trailing only Belmont's score of 562 (-14). UT Martin leads the field in par-4 scoring (3.96, -4) and combined for 35 birdies plus an eagle today.
"The guys played great today," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "I was pleased with how we managed our way around the golf course. We fell back on the last few holes today but I'm proud of the way we stuck to our strategy. We are in a great position going into tomorrow."
Three UT Martin representatives are in the top eight of the 91-man field, paced by Nick Wolf's 139 (-5, third place). Returning to his hometown, Jack Story tallied a 141 (-3) to rank fifth in the standings and is followed by Tate Chumley (142, -2) in eighth place. Story's 10 birdies so far are the second-most in the tournament while Chumley ranks second in pars (27) and par-4 scoring (3.85, -3).
Bryson Morrell (144, E) and Jacob Uehlein (146, +2) rank 16th and 20th, respectively, overall as members of the Skyhawk scoring lineup.
Wolf had a share of the individual lead after the morning round as his 68 (-4) was in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard. The junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. accounted for five birdies and just one bogey in Round 1.
Ranking right behind him was the UT Martin pair of Story and Morrell, who each tallied scores of 69 (-3). Story came away with a team-high six birdies this morning – four of which came on his back-nine. Meanwhile, Morrell sank five birdies as the Skyhawk tandem were in a tie for fourth place through 18 holes.
Chumley's first-round 70 included three birdies against only one bogey to round out the team scoring. Uehlein (73, +1) was responsible for UT Martin's lone eagle on the day – occurring on his final hole of the round, a par-5 playing at 563 yards.
The Skyhawks' second round was once again led by Wolf, who was at 4-under through 14 holes before settling for a 71 (-1). All four of his Round 2 birdies came in a five-hole stretch from Holes 9-13.
Story (four birdies) and Chumley (three birdies) both shot even-par 72's this afternoon while Uehlein's 73 (+1) slotted in as UT Martin's fourth and final scorer.
At one point, Morrell tallied 10 consecutive pars this afternoon on his way to a 75 (+3).
In addition, Peyton Dix and Luke Smith were one of 17 golfers competing as individuals in the event. Dix rolled in five birdies in Round 1 on the way to a 72 before a 78 this afternoon resulted in a 150 (+6) through 36 holes. Three of Smith's five birdies on the day came in the morning session as he posted scores of 75 and 77 for a 152 (+8).
The Skyhawks will try for their fourth tournament championship of the season tomorrow as a shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m.
