UT MARTIN GOLF RISES TO TOP OF TEAM STANDINGS WHILE STORY TAKES SOLE POSSESSION OF FIRST PLACE AT OVC CHAMPIONSHIPS

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Moving day took place for the University of Tennessee at Martin today during the second round of the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
The Skyhawks shot a 283 today (-5), which was four strokes better than any other team in the field and the best round for UT Martin in the OVC Championships since a 276 in the second round of the 2014 event. The Skyhawks made a late surge as 12 of their 20 birdies on the day came on the back-nine, leading to a leap from fourth to first place in the team standings.
Overall, UT Martin's 569 (-7) is two shots better than second-place Belmont (571, -5). The Skyhawks lead the tournament in birdies (39) and par-5 scoring (4.60, -16) with the third and final round on tap for tomorrow.
"We stayed in our gameplan and took things one hole at a time today," UT Martin head coach Austin Swafford said. "I'm so proud of this team. Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun. These guys deserve to be here and we are excited about the opportunity."

For the second consecutive day, Jack Story carded an impressive 68 (-4) that included a co-team-high of five birdies. The two-time All-OVC honoree only made one bogey all day and had three birdies in a row at one point (Holes No. 11-13). The Dickson, Tenn. native now leads the tournament in birdies (11) and par-4 scoring (3.75, -5). He has pieced together a 36-hole score of 136 (-8), opening up a two-shot advantage over Evan Davis from Belmont and Joe Muschong from Morehead State for medalist accolades.
Nick Wolf bounced back strong today after a non-countable score in Round 1, posting a 69 (-3) with five birdies – shaving eight strokes off yesterday's tally. Three of his birdies came during a seven-hole stretch on the back-nine as he now leads the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.50, -4). His 146 (+2) is tied for 13th in the individual standings.
Shooting even par in Round 2 was Jacob Uehlein, who knocked in three of his four birdies on the day in the final seven holes. His 72 today gives him a two-round total of 146 (+2), which is tied with Wolf and several others for 13th place in the field. The sophomore from Tullahoma, Tenn. leads the Skyhawks in par-3 scoring (2.88, -1) during the 2021 OVC Championships.
UT Martin's fourth countable scorer today was Ross Redmont, as his 74 (+2) included four birdies (two on each side). The Memphis, Tenn. native shook off a slow start to shoot 1-under over the last 12 holes. Alongside Wolf, he tops the field in par-5 scoring (4.50, -4) and is sitting in 22nd place overall with a 147 (+3) in the player standings.
Tate Chumley's 75 (+3) narrowly missed the cut in the Skyhawks' scoring lineup in Round 2. The All-OVC junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. managed two birdies and played even-par over the final eight holes. Through 36 holes in the tournament, he ranks first on the UT Martin squad in pars (24) and is tied with teammates Wolf and Uehlein for 13th place (146, +2) in the individual standings.
