ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior Mizuki Sakurai notched two victories in the University of Tennessee at Martin's season finale but the host Saint Louis Billikens won by a 5-2 decision this afternoon at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
Sakurai teamed up alongside Sina Albersmeier at No. 3 doubles and made short work of their opponents, defeating Nawal Cheema and Jacqueline Hijaouy by a 6-0 margin. Moments later in singles, Sakurai knocked off Cheema in convincing fashion – claiming a 6-2, 6-2 victory out of the No. 5 slot.
Jillian Niedzialowski accounted for UT Martin's other team point as the sophomore from Buffalo, NY came away with an impressive 6-1, 6-3 win over Hijaouy at the No. 6 position.
The Skyhawks battled for the remainder of the match as two other singles decisions came down to third-set tiebreakers and could have easily went either way. However, Saint Louis was able to hang on and escape for the narrow win.
