SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin was one of six teams who could not complete their second round at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate today as darkness settled in at the Twin Oaks Country Club course.
The Skyhawks, alongside Central Arkansas, Oral Roberts, North Alabama, Wichita State and Northern Illinois, each had their days cut short of completing the full 36-hole schedule. Those six will wrap up their Round 2 tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. and then continue into third round play.
Through Round 1, UT Martin (291, +7) ranks eighth in a bunched-up 18-team field. The Skyhawks are six shots behind tri-leaders Drake, Wichita State and Loyola-Chicago, who all posted a 285 (+1) this morning.
Making his season debut, Jacob Uehlein tied for UT Martin's best score in the first round, carding a 72 (+1). The sophomore from Tullahoma, Tenn. played his final 16 holes at 1-under, including a birdie on his final hole of the round. He led the field in par-3 scoring (2.80, -1) through 18 holes.
Tate Chumley joined Uehlein for a share of the team lead with a 72 (+1) as he sank three birdies this morning. Nick Wolf also tallied three birdies on his way to a 73 (+2) while Jack Story's 74 (+3) rounded out the Skyhawks' scoring lineup.
Peyton Dix (77, +6) was the final member of UT Martin's lineup while Mason Chandler (76, +5) represented the Skyhawks as an individual.
"It was a great test of golf today, both mentally and physically," UT Martin head coach Austin Swafford said. "We had quite a few momentum swings and need to handle the negative swings better – that starts with me. I'm excited to have some adversity and look for the team to improve tomorrow."
The only Skyhawk to complete his second round was Wolf, who started his afternoon with an eagle on the par-5 Hole No. 3 before tacking on three birdies in a row on Holes No. 7-9. The reigning Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week ended his round with a score of 72 (+1).
The UT Martin trio of Peyton Dix (E), Story (+4) and Chumley (+7) each have one hole left in Round 2 while Uehlein (+4 including four birdies) and Chandler (+5) each lack two holes from signing off on their afternoon scorecard.
