TATE CHUMLEY RANKS SECOND IN THE FIELD AFTER TWO ROUNDS OF THE TVA COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION INVITATIONAL

KILLEN, Ala. – Through 36 holes at the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational, University of Tennessee at Martin senior Tate Chumley is only two shots off the individual lead as Day 1 of the tournament hosted by North Alabama took place today at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.
Chumley's score of 141 (-3) ranks second in the field of 66 golfers as he is just two strokes behind Valparaiso's Caleb VanArragon (139, -5) for the top spot on the individual leaderboard. The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native leads the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.75, -2) and paces the Skyhawks in birdies (seven) and pars (25).
Jacob Uehlein also put together two good rounds today as he carded back-to-back even-par 72's. His 144 (E) is the ninth-best score in the field as the junior from Tullahoma, Tenn. ranks second in the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.63, -3) while topping UT Martin in birdies (seven) and par-4 scoring (4.00, E).
"Tate and Jacob both played steady today and maintained their focus and positivity well," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "They are two of our leaders and they led very well today."
As a team, UT Martin is sitting in third place out of 11 teams with a score of 587 (+11). The Skyhawks shot a 297 (+9) in Round 1 before tying for the best score in the field with a 290 (+2) during Round 2. Overall, UT Martin leads the tournament in birdies (30) and par-3 scoring (3.18, +7) – trailing only North Alabama (578, +2) and Valparaiso (581, +5) going into tomorrow's third and final round.
"I'm really proud with how we bounced back from Round 1 to Round 2," Swafford said. "We had some adversity and the guys fought hard. We tied for the best round this afternoon so that was great to see. We have to come out in the morning ready to go for the final round."
Tate Chumley's 71 this morning included a trio of birdies while Uehlein's 72 included four birdies – three of which occurred on the back-nine. All three of Bryson Morrell's birdies came during a seven-hole stretch as he posted a 76 out of the No. 1 slot in the Skyhawk lineup. Garrett Chumley was UT Martin's final scorer as he tapped in a pair of birdie putts on the way to a 78. Jonathan Xoinis (81) was the fifth member of the Skyhawk lineup as he produced a team-best four birdies but his score was deceiving after a quintuple-bogey on a par-5.
The afternoon session was paced by Tate Chumley's season-best 70 as the reigning All-Ohio Valley Conference performer collected four birdies – including three in a row to start the back-nine. Uehlein's 72 included nine pars on the front-nine and a trio of birdies on the back side. Xoinis sank three birdies in the span of four holes during the latter stages of his 74 while Garrett Chumley managed a pair of birdies in his countable 74. Morrell's 77 in Round 2 included two birdies.
Garrett Chumley combined for a 152 (+8) today while Morrell ranked second in the tournament with a 3.00 (E) par-3 scoring average on the way to a 153 (+9). Xoinis tied Tate Chumley and Uehlein for the team lead with seven birdies as he posted a 155 (+11).
Competing as an individual, Cayden Chambers ranks 25th in the field with an overall tally of 151 (+7). The freshman out of Waverly, Tenn. was responsible for three birdies as part of a 77 in Round 1 before posting a pair of birdies during a 74 in Round 2.
UT Martin will be paired with North Alabama and Valparaiso tomorrow as Xoinis (8:54 a.m.), Morrell (9:03), Garrett Chumley (9:12), Uehlein (9:21) and Tate Chumley (9:30) will tee off on Hole No. 1. Chambers will play alongside competitors from Alabama A&M and Texas Southern and will tee off Hole No. 10 at 9:12 a.m.
