UT MARTIN FOOTBALL 2020 SIGNING CLASS RANKED 14TH NATIONALLY BY HERO SPORTS
2/5/2020 4:31:00 PM | Football
After proper vetting by Hero Sports, the Skyhawks signing class ranked 14th nationally amongst FCS programs and second in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Seven states are represented among the group, including 14 from Florida, four from Tennessee, two from both Alabama and Georgia along with one each from Hawaii, Mississippi and Missouri.
"It is always satisfying when you see a group come together," UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson said. "There were guys that we identified, were able recruit for a year and really build a bond with. It is fun to see all of that hard work come to fruition on National Signing Day. Then we were certainly opportunistic to snag a couple FBS-caliber players late that slipped through the cracks whom we look to do great things for us in the future."
With his 15th signing class at UT Martin, Simpson looked to address needs on both sides of the ball. Overall, the Skyhawks signed 11 players on offense and 14 on offense. The class boasts two quarterbacks, one running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end and five offensive linemen while featuring four defensive linemen, three linebackers and seven defensive backs.
"Numerically one of our biggest needs was at defensive back and defensive line, so we certainly met that quota through this signing period," Simpson said. "Then on offense, we felt good at our skill positions but we wanted to get some longer offensive tackles for the future and we were able to do that as well. At the end of the day the class is fairly even and we are happy to bring these young men to Martin."
