BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Parker Stewart, a redshirt junior on the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team, has been voted as a Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree by the league's head coaches and communication directors.
Stewart was one of 13 members named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-OVC squad as the league launched a weeklong campaign before OVC Virtual Media Day on Nov. 9-10. The 2020-21 conference schedule will be announced tomorrow at 11 a.m.
A 6-5, 210-pound guard from Union City, Tenn., Stewart piled up All-OVC second team and OVC All-Newcomer honors in 2019-20, also earning a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 18 second team. He was the only NCAA Division I player to average at least 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 three-point field goals made per game.
Stewart led the OVC with 2.8 three-point field goals made per game and also ranked third in scoring (19.2 points per game), third in minutes played (36.1 per game), seventh in assists (3.8 per game) and 10th in free throw percentage (.766) as a redshirt sophomore. He upped his scoring average to 20.0 points per game in league play, piling up a dozen games of at least 20 points overall.
A five-time OVC Newcomer of the Week last season, Stewart went off for four 30-plus point performances, equaling a career-high scoring tally with 33 points at both Murray State (Jan. 2) and Morehead State (Feb. 1). Additionally, he averaged 4.6 rebounds per contest in 2019-20, including a double-double of 32 points and a career-high 11 rebounds at Western Illinois on Nov. 13. He became the first Skyhawk to record at least 30 points as part of a double-double against a Division I opponent since 2013.
