BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced its Golfer of the Week today as the University of Tennessee at Martin's Jack Story won the honor for the second straight time to start the 2019-20 season.
Story, who won the OVC weekly award for the first time in his career last week, now becomes just the second Skyhawk to ever claim the OVC Golfer of the Week accolade in consecutive weeks. He joins all-time UT Martin great Hunter Richardson (Sept. 13-20, 2017) as the only Skyhawks to accomplish that feat.
A Dickson, Tenn. native, Story pieced together his second top-five finish of the young season – placing fourth out of 74 competitors at the Raising Canes Invitational over the weekend. He shot a 211 (+1) after rounds of 66-73-72 at the Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, Ky.
Story led the tournament field with 13 birdies while also ranking second in the event in par-4 scoring (3.94, -2). Six of his birdies came in Round 1 alone – all coming in the span of nine holes – while he tacked on four birdies in Round 2 and three more during Sunday's final round.
Story's steady play helped UT Martin finish second in the 12-team event and first out of seven OVC schools competing in the tournament. The Skyhawks shot an 847 (+7) for their second consecutive runner-up finish to begin the fall.
The senior southpaw currently ranks first in the OVC with a 67.7 scoring average in 2019-20, accounting for 29 birdies and three eagles through just six rounds.
UT Martin is back at it next week, as the Skyhawks head to the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational played at Gateway National in Madison, Ill. on Sept. 23-24.
