BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jack Story, a senior at the University of Tennessee at Martin, was crowned as the Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
Today's announcement results in the first career OVC weekly honor for Story, who hails from Dickson, Tenn. Story becomes the 10th Skyhawk to ever receive the award and first since Hunter Richardson brought home the accolade on April 4, 2018.
Story was near flawless in his execution on Miller Memorial Golf Course on Sept. 9-10, winning the Murray State Invitational by 11 strokes. He pieced together rounds of 68-64-63 – collecting a total score of 195 (-18) which broke the 18-year event record for best score, previously held by two-time OVC Player of the Year and current PGA Tour professional Scott Stallings in 2005.
Story entered the final round with a one-stroke advantage but his career-low 63 on Tuesday helped him run away with medalist honors. He carded all of his tournament-high three eagles in the third round for his first career collegiate tournament victory.
Overall, Story dialed up 16 birdies over the 54-hole event, topping the 95-man tournament field in par-4 scoring (3.76, -8) and par-5 scoring (4.00, -9).
Story helped UT Martin to a final-round score of 273 (-11), which was the program's best single-round performance since at least 2008. As a direct result, the Skyhawks placed second in the stacked field of 17 teams with a final score of 834 (-18).
UT Martin resumes its fall schedule this weekend when it travels to the Raising Canes Intercollegiate, hosted by Eastern Kentucky University on Sept. 14-15.
