Day 1 Results
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The tandem of Nick Wolf and Tate Chumley combined for nine of the University of Tennessee at Martin's 15 birdies today as the Skyhawks completed the first day of the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships held at The Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
          Â
Wolf and Chumley each finished at even-par on the day, carding identical 72's to set a new career-best scoring round in the OVC Championships for each golfer. Three of Wolf's four birdies came during a seven-hole stretch on the back-nine while Chumley collected all of his team-best five birdies in a nine-hole span just before the turn.
          Â
Ross Redmont posted both of his birdies on the back-nine on his way to a 78 (+6). Jack Story completed the team scoring today, finishing with a score of 81 (+9) after a torrid start that included three birdies and four pars through the first eight holes.
          Â
Making his OVC Championships debut today was Cameron Smith, who shot an 82 (+10) for the Skyhawks.
          Â
As a team, UT Martin shot a 303 (+15), which ranks 10th in the team standings. Belmont (275, -13) holds the top spot on the team leaderboard while Eastern Kentucky's Billy Basham (66, -6) leads the individual standings after the first day of the three-round event.
          Â
"It was just a bad day for three of our golfers," Skyhawk head coach Jerry Carpenter said. "We need to play better and come out with an improved gameplan for tomorrow. I'm confident in our players and their abilities to put on a better showing in each of the next two rounds."
          Â
UT Martin is paired with Eastern Illinois for Round 2 action on Monday, April 22. Smith tees off at 8 a.m. and will be followed by Story (8:10), Redmont (8:20), Chumley (8:30) and Wolf (8:30) off of Hole No. 1 on the Fighting Joe Course.
